NEI Study on Calcium and AMD Contradicts Earlier Study Indicating Increased Risk
Taking calcium supplements is not linked to an increased risk to age-related macular degeneration, said scientists from the National Eye Institute in the U.S. in the March issue of JAMA Ophthalmology. In a 2015 JAMA Ophthalmology study, calcium consumption was associated with a higher AMD risk.

New Adhesive Gel Able To Repair Corneal Injuries
A new biomaterial adhesive gel developed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School could reduce the need for surgery to repair injuries to the cornea. New material overcomes poor bio-compatibility with corneal tissue.

First Standardized Reading Visual Acuity Chart in Arabic Created by UW Graduate Student
A University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science PhD student was inspired to create the chart after returning to her clinical job in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and becoming frustrated with what wasn't available.
